18 months of innovation. 2,500 hours of customer testing. 184 days in Singapore. One extraordinary transformation for Air NZ’s NEW 787s.
Yesterday, Air NZ welcomed home a game-changer — its very first retrofitted Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, ZK-NZH, officially touching down in Auckland after nearly six months in Singapore.
This aircraft is the first in the airline’s fleet to complete a world-first, nose-to-tail cabin retrofit, featuring an all-new interior designed to elevate the onboard experience. From the luxurious Business Premier Luxe suite to the reimagined Business Premier, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins — every detail has been redefined with the customer at the heart.
Air New Zealand Chief Commercial Officer Jeremy O’Brien calls it a milestone moment in the airline’s 85-year legacy:
“Seeing the first of our 14 Dreamliners to undergo this transformation arrive home is a huge moment for our people, our customers, and the future of Air New Zealand. We’re so proud to deliver this new experience for those who fly with us around the world.”
Now back on home soil, the aircraft will undergo final checks — including system testing and full crew trials — before welcoming customers on board from mid-May.
The journey doesn’t stop here. A second 787-9 is already in Singapore for retrofit, with seven aircraft set for completion by the end of this year. By the end of 2026, all 14 Boeing 787-9s will feature this next-generation cabin experience.
Air New Zealand is redefining long-haul travel — and this is just the beginning.
