Air Transat was founded in 1986 by a group of Quebec entrepreneurs, including former Quebecair employees, with the vision of creating a leisure airline to connect Canadians to vacation destinations. Its first flight took off in 1987, from Montreal to Acapulco, Mexico.
Initially focused on holiday charters, Air Transat quickly gained popularity for its affordable vacation packages, particularly to European and Caribbean destinations. By the 1990s, it had established itself as a significant player in Canada’s leisure travel market.
In 2009, Air Transat became the first North American airline to receive IATA’s Platinum certification for its commitment to carbon management. Over the years, the airline has modernized its fleet, transitioning to fuel-efficient aircraft to align with its environmental goals.
In 2021, following the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Air Transat became a leaner operation, focusing on efficiency while continuing to provide competitively priced travel options. Today, it remains a prominent name in the leisure airline sector, known for its focus on holiday travel and innovation in sustainability.

Club Class: Is Air Transat’s premium cabin offering. Wider seats, extra legroom, priority check-in and boarding, and enhanced meal service. Most long-haul flights offer personal screens or wireless streaming for movies, TV shows, and music
Economy Class: Offers comfortable seating with personal entertainment systems on long-haul flights. Complimentary meals and beverages are offered on some long-haul flights and passengers can take advantage of optional paid upgrades for more legroom (Option Plus). On short-haul flights Café by Air Transat has snacks, meals and beverages available for purchase.

Air Transat does not offer a rewards program for frequent flyers, instead focusing on providing affordable travel to holiday-makers.
Air Transat does not offer dedicated lounge access however Business Class passengers (Club Class) and travelers purchasing lounge access as an add-on can use partner lounges at select airports, depending on the departure or arrival location.
For example, at major hubs like Montreal-Trudeau (YUL), passengers may have access to airport-operated premium lounges for an additional fee. Lounge availability and access options can vary, so passengers should check specific details when booking.
