History

AirAsia Indonesia was originally founded in 1999 as Awair (Air Wagon International) but suspended operations in 2002. In 2005, it was relaunched as a subsidiary of AirAsia, the Malaysian low-cost airline. The rebranding aligned with the AirAsia Group’s vision of providing affordable travel options throughout Asia.

Over the years, AirAsia Indonesia has grown to become a significant player in the Indonesian aviation market, offering extensive domestic and regional connections. The airline’s low-cost model and partnerships with other AirAsia Group carriers have made it popular among budget travelers.

AirAsia Indonesia operates on a single-class low-cost model but provides additional services for a fee.

The standard cabin incorporates comfortable slimline seats with adjustable headrests and no complimentary meals or beverages. However, food and drinks are available for purchase from the Santan Menu, which features Indonesian and Asian cuisine. There is also optional in-flight entertainment available via the AirAsia app.

Add-on services include Premium Flex, which provides priority boarding, seat selection, and baggage allowances and Hot Seats, which allows extra legroom seating located near exits or in the front rows.

Loyalty Program

AirAsia Indonesia participates in the AirAsia Rewards Program. Members can earn AirAsia points for flights, in-flight purchases, and other transactions across AirAsia Group. These points can be redeemed for flight discounts, seat upgrades, and other perks. Tiered membership offers increasing benefits, such as free seat selection or priority boarding.

Lounges

AirAsia Indonesia does not operate its own lounges but offers access to partner lounges at select airports for an additional fee or as part of the Premium Flex package. Typically, partner lounges provide complimentary snacks and beverages, Wi-Fi access and workspaces and relaxation areas.

Sustainability & Environmental Efforts

As part of the AirAsia Group, AirAsia Indonesia emphasizes sustainable practices in its operations:

  • Operates a young, fuel-efficient Airbus A320 fleet to reduce carbon emissions.
  • Uses digital technology to minimize paper usage through mobile check-ins and e-tickets.
  • Actively promotes eco-friendly initiatives like waste reduction and recycling on board.
