AirAsia X was established in 2007 as a long-haul, low-cost subsidiary of the AirAsia Group. Its first flight connected Kuala Lumpur to the Gold Coast, Australia. The airline’s mission was to offer affordable long-haul travel to destinations in Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and Europe.
AirAsia X grew rapidly, becoming a key player in the low-cost, long-haul segment. It introduced services to major destinations like London, Paris, Tokyo, and Sydney. However, competition, rising costs, and market challenges led to operational refinements.
In recent years, AirAsia X has focused on profitable routes while exploring partnerships to expand its global footprint.

AirAsia X participates in the AirAsia Rewards Program which enables passengers to earn AirAsia Points for flights, in-flight purchases, and services. Points can be redeemed for discounts, upgrades, and other rewards. Membership tiers (Red, Silver, Gold, Platinum) offer additional benefits, such as free seat selection and priority services.
AirAsia X passengers flying in Premium Class or with Premium Flex packages have access to lounges at select airports, including the Red Lounge at KLIA2 and partner lounges in key international hubs. Lounges typically offer comfortable seating, light refreshments, Wi-Fi, and workspaces.
