Alaska Airlines traces its origins to 1932, when it began as McGee Airways, operating flights between Anchorage and remote Alaskan communities. The airline expanded over the decades, merging with other carriers and adopting the Alaska Airlines name in 1944.
By the 1980s, Alaska Airlines shifted focus to the U.S. West Coast, strengthening its presence in key cities like Seattle, Portland, and Los Angeles. The acquisition of Virgin America in 2016 marked a significant expansion into the U.S. East Coast and improved the airline’s competitiveness in transcontinental markets.

Mileage Plan is Alaska Airlines’ frequent flyer program. Members can earn miles based on miles flown rather than ticket cost and then redeem miles for award flights, upgrades, or other travel perks.
