Avianca is one of the oldest airlines in the world, founded as SCADTA (Sociedad Colombo Alemana de Transporte Aéreo) in 1919 in Barranquilla, Colombia. After merging with SACO (Servicio Aéreo Colombiano) in 1940, it became Avianca. Over its century-long history, Avianca has grown into a leading airline in Latin America, recognized for its extensive route network and commitment to innovation.
In 2009, Avianca merged with TACA Airlines, forming the Avianca-TACA Holding, though both brands initially operated separately. The airline joined Star Alliance in 2012, further integrating into global aviation networks. Avianca emerged from financial restructuring in 2021 and continues to focus on efficiency, customer service, and sustainability.
