Garuda Indonesia, named after the mythical bird Garuda in Hindu mythology, was established in 1949 as the national carrier of Indonesia. Its inaugural flight transported President Sukarno from Jakarta to Yogyakarta. Over the decades, Garuda grew into a major international airline, connecting Indonesia to the world.
