Gulf Air, established in 1950, is one of the oldest airlines in the Middle East. Initially founded as Gulf Aviation, the airline was originally a partnership between Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. Over the years, each partner nation established its own national carrier, leaving Gulf Air solely owned by Bahrain since 2007. Gulf Air has positioned itself as a key player in the region by offering reliable services and embodying Bahraini culture.

Domestic: Gulf Air’s domestic routes are limited due to Bahrain’s geographic size.

The name of Gulf Air’s loyalty program is Falconflyer. Members can earn and redeem miles for flights and services. Tiers include Blue, Silver, Gold, and Black with increasing benefits. Depending on the member’s membership tier, benefits include priority check-in, lounge access, and additional baggage allowance.

Gulf Air operates Falcon Gold Lounges at Bahrain International Airport as well as at airports at Dubai and London Heathrow. They feature luxurious seating, private workspaces, and showers, gourmet dining, Wi-Fi, and entertainment options. Falcon Gold passengers and loyalty program elite members can gain access.

From the airline’s website, it is difficult to ascertain their sustainability policy although it is clear the airline is participating in important social initiatives in some of the most disadvantaged regions of the world.
The airline has introduced fuel efficient aircraft like the Airbus A320neo and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and encourages passengers to participate in their carbon offset program.
They have made some moves towards the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in experimental flights.
