History

Jetstar Asia was established in 2004 as a joint venture between Qantas Airways (which owns a majority stake), Singapore-based investors, and other stakeholders. It was created to expand the Jetstar brand into the Southeast Asian market, offering low-cost travel options to regional destinations. The airline initially faced strong competition but managed to grow steadily, benefiting from Singapore’s strategic position as an aviation hub. Over the years, Jetstar Asia has expanded its network to include key destinations across Southeast Asia, China, and Japan. It continues to focus on affordable travel while leveraging the strength of the Jetstar Group and Qantas network.
