Korean Air was founded in 1969 after the South Korean government privatized Korean National Airlines. It started as a domestic carrier but quickly expanded to international routes. By the 1980s, Korean Air had grown into one of Asia’s major airlines, operating transpacific and European flights. The airline played a key role in the development of South Korea’s aviation industry and has since become one of the world’s leading global carriers.
In 2000, Korean Air became a founding member of the SkyTeam alliance, strengthening its international connectivity. The airline has continually modernized its fleet, invested in sustainability initiatives, and expanded its premium services. In 2020, Korean Air announced the acquisition of Asiana Airlines, which will further enhance its market position once fully integrated.

SKYPASS is the name of Korean Air’s frequent flyer program. Members can earn and redeem miles on Korean Air, SkyTeam airlines, and partners. Elite tiers (Morning Calm Club, Morning Calm Premium Club, Million Miler Club) provide additional benefits. Mileage redemption can be used for flight upgrades, free tickets, and hotel stays.

KAL Prestige Lounges are located at Incheon, Gimpo, Busan and Jeju airports in Korea. In Japan, they are located at Nagoya, Tokyo (Narita), Osaka and Fukuoka and in the United States, they are found at New York, Los Angeles and Honolulu. They provide buffet dining, business centers, and relaxation areas. First Class passengers are offered areas with premium services. Premium passengers can access SkyTeam partner lounges worldwide also.
