History

LOT Polish Airlines is one of the world’s oldest airlines still in operation, established in 1929. Initially a domestic carrier, it expanded internationally in the 1930s but had to rebuild after World War II. During the Cold War, it operated under Poland’s socialist government, primarily using Soviet aircraft.

In the 1990s, LOT transitioned to Western-built aircraft and modernized its operations. It joined Star Alliance in 2003, expanding its global reach. The airline was the first European carrier to operate the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in 2012, strengthening its long-haul capabilities.

LOT has faced financial struggles but has successfully restructured multiple times. Today, it is Poland’s national carrier and a key player in Central and Eastern Europe, operating a growing network of long-haul and regional flights.
