Porter Airlines was established in 2006 with a focus on providing premium service with a regional airline model. The airline’s primary hub, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, allows for convenient access to downtown Toronto, making it popular among business travelers. Initially operating with a fleet of Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft, Porter gained a reputation for offering an enhanced passenger experience, including complimentary snacks and beverages. In 2023, the airline expanded its operations significantly by adding Embraer E195-E2 jets to its fleet, allowing for longer-haul flights across North America. This expansion marked a shift towards a more competitive presence in the Canadian aviation market.

Porter Airlines offers Economy Class with a “premium feel”, including comfortable seating and generous legroom. Free snacks, beer, and wine is served onboard, distinguishing it from other regional airlines. There is no traditional business class, but additional comfort seating options are available on select routes. Optional checked baggage and seat selection are offered for a fee.
