History

SriLankan Airlines, the flag carrier of Sri Lanka, was established in 1979 as Air Lanka, following the closure of the country’s original national airline, Air Ceylon. In 1998, Emirates acquired a significant stake in the airline, leading to a rebranding as SriLankan Airlines and the introduction of a new livery. The partnership with Emirates concluded in 2008, after which the Sri Lankan government took full ownership. In 2014, SriLankan Airlines joined the Oneworld alliance, enhancing its global connectivity. Over the years, the airline has built a reputation for service excellence, safety, and punctuality.
