Turkish Airlines was established in 1933 as “State Airlines Administration” under the Ministry of National Defense. Initially, it operated a small fleet of five aircraft. Over the decades, the airline expanded rapidly, introducing international routes in the 1940s and transitioning into a global carrier. The 1980s and 1990s saw a significant modernization of its fleet and services, setting the stage for its inclusion in the Star Alliance in 2008. Today, Turkish Airlines is one of the largest airlines in the world by the number of destinations, serving more than 120 countries.
