The agreement would be Boeing’s biggest with Chinese carriers since 2017 and could signal a thaw in U.S.–China trade tensions.
The negotiations are still under way, with key details — including aircraft models, delivery schedules, and airline allocations — yet to be finalized. The deal reportedly depends on regulatory and trade approvals from both governments.
A successful order would give Boeing a major boost in the world’s second-largest aviation market and help fill production slots at a time of high demand. China would gain hundreds of new jets to meet surging domestic air travel needs, which local planemaker COMAC cannot fully satisfy.
Analysts warn hurdles remain, including tariffs, export controls, and competition from Airbus, which has gained ground in China during Boeing’s absence. The deal could be announced within months if political conditions align.
