Emirates has flagged a new 777-10 model as it places another mega order for 65 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft powered by GE9X engines at the Dubai Air Show.
The agreement, valued at US$38 billion at list prices, further consolidates the Dubai-based carrier’s position as the world’s largest international airline and the biggest global operator of the Boeing 777 family.
The purchase expands Emirates’ total Boeing backlog to 315 widebody jets, including 270 777X models, 10 777 freighters and 35 787 Dreamliners. With today’s announcement, the airline has also increased its commitment to GE Aerospace, taking its total GE9X engine orderbook to 540 units. The scale of the deal underscores a long-term investment in US aerospace manufacturing, supporting what Emirates says will be hundreds of thousands of high-value American jobs over the life of the aircraft programmes.
The agreement also offers fresh momentum to Boeing’s feasibility study into a proposed 777-10 variant. Emirates has secured options enabling it to convert some of its newly ordered 777-9s into the longer-range 777-8 or the higher-capacity 777-10, should Boeing proceed with development.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, said the orders reflect the airline’s strategic growth plans and its continued confidence in Boeing and GE.
“Emirates is already the world’s largest Boeing 777 operator and we are expanding our commitment to the programme today,” he said. “Flying a young and modern fleet with innovative cabin products has always been a cornerstone of Emirates’ strategy. We look forward to the delivery of our first 777-9s from the second quarter of 2027.”
On the potential 777-10, Sheikh Ahmed added: “We have been clear in our desire for larger, more efficient aircraft to meet growing global demand and increasing airport capacity constraints. We fully support Boeing’s study and have options in place to convert our latest 777-9 orders should the 777-10 move forward.”
Boeing welcomed the expanded partnership. “We are deeply honoured that Emirates has once again selected the Boeing 777X to power its future,” said Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “Emirates has grown into one of the world’s leading carriers, and we look forward to supporting its network and fleet for decades to come.”
GE Aerospace also hailed the deal. Russell Stokes, President and CEO of Commercial Engines & Services, said the additional GE9X order reaffirmed Emirates’ long-standing trust in GE’s technology. “We are ready to support Emirates in every way to leverage the efficiency and durability of our industry-leading engines,” he said.
Emirates has flown every generation of the Boeing 777 throughout its 40-year history and currently operates the world’s largest fleet, including 119 777-300ERs, 10 777-200LRs and 11 777 freighters. These aircraft connect Dubai to more than 140 destinations across six continents.
With today’s order, Emirates will take Boeing deliveries through to 2038, extending a partnership that spans manufacturing sites across the United States—from Alabama and Kansas to South Carolina, Texas and Washington—where the 777X aircraft and GE9X engines are built.
