Korean Air Group To Add Starlink Wi-Fi.

Korean Air and its affiliated carriers — Asiana Airlines, Jin Air, Air Busan and Air Seoul — will adopt Starlink, SpaceX’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite internet service, under a group-wide plan to elevate passenger and crew connectivity ahead of the carriers’ full integration.

Starlink’s network of more than 8,000 LEO satellites delivers peak speeds of up to 500 Mbps, enabling bandwidth-intensive activities such as high-definition streaming, online gaming, video calling, cloud-based work and real-time messaging. The upgrade will provide fast, reliable Wi-Fi across all cabins, offering travellers an internet experience comparable to being on the ground.

Installation preparation and testing are scheduled to begin later this year, with rollout timelines varying by airline. The earliest customer access to Starlink is expected as soon as the third quarter of 2026.

Korean Air and Asiana Airlines will prioritise their long-haul fleets, beginning with Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Following the airlines’ integration, Korean Air aims to complete fleetwide installation by the end of 2027. Jin Air will initially equip its Boeing 737-8 fleet, while Air Busan and Air Seoul will determine installation order based on operational needs.

Starlink’s LEO constellation operates at an altitude of around 550 kilometres — far closer to Earth than traditional geostationary satellites positioned more than 35,000 kilometres away — allowing for significantly faster data transfer and lower latency than conventional in-flight internet systems.
