QantasLink Launches New Perth Routes to Newcastle and Hobart

QantasLink has announced the launch of two new domestic routes from Perth, introducing direct services to Newcastle and reinstating flights to Hobart. The new services are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025, enhancing air connectivity for Western Australia and supporting the state’s critical resource and tourism sectors.

Perthโ€“Newcastle: Commencing 8 September 2025, QantasLink will operate three weekly non-stop flights on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays. The service will provide over 45,000 seats annually and will be the only direct air link between the two cities. This route is expected to offer increased convenience for FIFO (fly-in fly-out) workers and other travellers linked to the mining and resources industries.

Perthโ€“Hobart: From 26 September 2025, QantasLink will reintroduce its direct service to Hobart. Operating three times per week on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays (excluding May, June, and August), the route will offer approximately 32,000 seats each year. The route marks the return of a direct connection that was last available in 2023.

Both new routes will be operated using QantasLinkโ€™s Airbus A319 aircraft, configured with 150 economy seats. These aircraft, which are primarily deployed on intra-WA routes serving the resources sector, will feature Qantas’ Q Streaming in-flight entertainment system. Passengers will be able to stream movies and television content to their own devices. In-flight meals and checked baggage are included as standard, although Wi-Fi will not be available on these aircraft.

These additions further develop Qantasโ€™ western hub at Perth Airport, offering passengers access to one-stop international connections to destinations such as London, Paris, and Rome (seasonal). The move supports broader efforts to boost domestic tourism and strengthen economic links between Western Australia, New South Wales, and Tasmania.

The development of these routes involved collaboration with several stakeholders, including Perth Airport, Newcastle Airport, Hobart Airport, Destination NSW, Tourism Tasmania, and Tourism WA.

Rachel Yangoyan, CEO of QantasLink, said:

โ€œWeโ€™re proud to continue supporting Western Australiaโ€™s resource and tourism sectors. Our newest routes connect Perth with Hobart and Newcastle, offering improved travel options for both business and leisure travellers.โ€

Kate Holsgrove, Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer at Perth Airport, added:

โ€œThe introduction of new domestic services demonstrates Qantas Groupโ€™s ongoing commitment to Western Australia. These routes strengthen Perth Airportโ€™s role as Australiaโ€™s western gateway and will contribute to tourism growth and economic development.โ€

Flights on both routes are now available for booking at qantas.com, with launch fares starting from $299 one-way between Perth and Newcastle or Hobart. The introductory fare sale ends at 11:59pm AEST on Monday, 2 June 2025, unless sold out earlier. Terms and conditions apply.
